The following are two kosher events for which we designed innovative menus and beautiful environments.
A Moroccan Shabbat DinnerFor an elaborate Shabbat dinner, 5-Star Kosher Catering designed an inspired kosher menu and the unique environment in which it was served. In the backyard of a beautiful home, a pristine tent was installed and decorated with the rich colors of Moroccan spice markets and the textiles for which it is so well known. The floor was covered in a deep aubergine carpet while overhead the ceiling came alive with yards of lush fabrics in jewel tones of tangerine and jade. Guests could sit at tables or recline on one of the many pillows that surrounded low-lying tables. Each table was already filled with the flavors of Morocco, both simple and complex. Guests leisurely nibbled on pistachios, olives, bell peppers, breads and more that was resplendent on the tables. After waiters served a first course of soup, guests were invited to enjoy a buffet overflowing with an elaborate and multi-course kosher meal rich in the colors, flavors and aromas of Morocco. |
A Wild WeddingIn December, 5-Star Kosher Catering was featured on the Food Network’s new hit show, Behind the Bash with Giada De Laurentiis. When the show contacted Joann Roth and her company, Someone’s in the Kitchen, lured by her celebrity roster, Joann told them of a gourmet kosher event that would be more interesting than just another “celebrity” event. 5-Star had been asked to create a gourmet kosher wedding for two foodies in love and their nearly 200 guests. Now we come to the interesting part. The location was at the Santa Barbara Zoo in a grassy area overlooking the giraffes and the Pacific Ocean. A Santa Barbara designer created the look of the ceremony and reception areas to be “Asian-Indian fusion,” with jewel-toned linen and a canopy of umbrellas and lanterns. The look was dramatic, but for 5-Star, Behind the Bash and the clients, it was all about the food. The groom’s family owns Los Angeles’ most well-known Moroccan restaurant and many of the bride’s family are orthodox, as was the officiating Rabbi. The groom had converted, but that didn’t mean that the food had to be basic kosher fare. On the contrary. The couple was very clear that the food had to be gourmet and as memorable as the wedding’s “wild” setting. This was a request that Roth and her team could meet with ease and although the setting was wild, they remained in control of every detail from start to finish. |
